Meet Katherine

Katherine Martin grew up surrounded by faith, words, and nature. Her father, an Episcopal priest, headmaster, and poet, and her mother, a grace-filled woman led by the Spirit, raised her on the mountain campus of the University of the South and St. Andrew’s School in Sewanee, Tennessee. She later attended Smith College, majoring in art with a focus on 3D work rather than drawing. In her early years of marriage and motherhood, she taught pottery and art. Life took a dramatic turn in 1982 when she entered rehab, beginning a new chapter of growth and grace. She went on to serve for 19 years as Executive Director of a recovery facility and later as Director of Resident Services at St. James Place. A proud mother of two sons serving our country, Katherine also finds joy in making music, creating art, and serving others.

Her angel drawings began with a poem from her father. During a dark period in her life, Katherine asked him to write about angels, and he penned verses describing “angels of might surrounding me” and “angels of light… my guardians watching over me.” After his passing, Katherine began receiving words—what she calls eternal messages—often at night. With encouragement from her spiritual director and friends, she began illustrating these messages using a contemplative approach: each angel is drawn with her non-dominant hand, and the angel—not Katherine—is upside down on the page. This unusual technique allows the angels to emerge in their own way—sometimes peacefully, other times energetically—before she adds halos, stardust, and, more recently, color and movement. She shares these daily messages and angel images on Facebook and Instagram, offering comfort, joy, and hope to all who encounter them.
